Plato once said that art and artists are a menace for the functioning of an ideal republic. In Plato's opinion, artists are not divine souls but just creatures who reproduce nature as it is, on canvas. Therefore, they are in way superior to the higher realm that is nature. He believed that art is twice removed from reality.
One may be less likely to think the same in present times. Artists play an important role in our society and they bring nature to its enigmatic best on canvas.
Likewise, poets too have composed lyrics that have been amidst nature and they stir the soul of the individual. Artists love both animate and inanimate objects out of which they can break and mould the certain object according to what they like and create something that fancies their mind.
Hence, Aristotle contradicted his opinion by stating that an artist or his work that for eg. could be tragic, helps in the purgation of emotions.
Most artists have this fascination for their muses and often this divine obsession comes in the way of an artist's personal or social sphere. An artist could have discreet passions for his muse and he may never acknowledge his feelings. The reason for this could be that he feels that the ancillary affections for the muse could be an impediment to the creativity of an art.
An artist's love may have a very strong impact on the creation of the artist. Artists love beautiful colors, paintings, faces, figures. They also like to be amidst nature in order to be one with nature and keep their creative juices flowing.
